Nikolay Hotze is the Managing Director of Caneel Bay Resort on St. John, USVI. Trained in Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States. Hotze is responsible for leading and developing the management team at Caneel Bay while overseeing the day-to-day operation of this legendary resort. Additionally, on behalf of Caneel Bay's owners CBI Acquisitions LLC, Hotze as part of the Executive Team, determines the strategic path for shaping the future of the resort while also representing Caneel Bay's interests within the US Virgin Islands. As Managing Director of a business on the island of St. John, Hotze embraces the corporate social responsibility of his role; representing Caneel Bay within the local community, partnering with the Virgin Islands National Park on its environmental initiatives which support the well-being of the ecology of the island and most importantly investing in the well-being of the resort's most important asset - its 470 employees. Under Hotze's stewardship, Caneel Bay has achieved new pinnacles of financial success and in 2013, he led the resort from having a Hotel Management Agreement with Rosewood Hotels & Resorts to being operated as an independent, in the process becoming a member of the Leading Hotels of the World.
Hotze is no stranger to hospitality excellence. Having joined Caneel Bay as Resort Manager in December 2006, he spent the two-and-a-half years prior to his arrival as Hotel Manager of the then Rosewood property Acqualina in Sunny Isles FL. He was selected by the Acqualina's owners during the property's planning and construction phase to assemble a top-flight resort management team, oversee 270 employees and arrange service contracts with third-party vendors. Prior to joining Rosewood, Hotze spent five years at the El San Juan Hotel and Casino in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Following his stint in Puerto Rico, Hotze held food and beverage management positions at several Miami-based properties, including Loews Hotel, Tides Hotel, Marlin Hotel and the Doral Golf Resort & Spa. He began his hospitality career in London with the Savoy Hotel Group. A native of Germany, Hotze earned a degree in Hotel Administration from German Abitur in Kiel, Germany in 1994. He is fluent in German, Spanish and English and currently resides at Caneel Bay with his wife and two young children.
